Scientists in Russia are now being prosecuted for donations to FBK . Criminal cases against them are initiated by the FSB's Fourth Service, Mediazona reports

Russian scientists and university lecturers are increasingly becoming defendants in cases of financing “extremism” over donations to FBK. Over the past six months, more than ten such cases have reached Moscow courts, Mediazona found.

At least three cases against scientists were initiated by Department 4 of Directorate “P” of the FSB's Fourth Service (also known as the Economic Security Service).

The Dossier Center wrote that staff of this directorate provide “counterintelligence support for industry” and oversee, among others, the state technology corporations Rostec, Rusnano, and Roscosmos. According to one scientist, the Fourth Service deals with Skoltech and HSE University.

Among the scientists who have received actual prison terms is Doctor of Biological Sciences Sofya Rozenfeld, a specialist in Arctic birds. As Mediazona writes, her case includes testimony from a witness, an operative officer from Center “E,” who said that he received “review materials” concerning Rozenfeld from Department 4 of Directorate “P” of the FSB's Fourth Service. This unit is also mentioned in other cases over donations to FBK.
