Russia sharply increased gasoline and diesel exports in September despite the fuel crisis

In September, Russia sharply increased exports of 92-octane and 95-octane gasoline and diesel compared with August, despite queues at gas stations, according to Transport Ministry data on shipments by all modes of transport analyzed by Verstka.

Despite the fuel crisis continuing in September, 323,000 tonnes of 92-octane gasoline were sold abroad that month (up 77% from August), along with 449,000 tonnes of 95-octane and higher (an increase of 2.2 times) and more than 3 million tonnes of diesel (up 33%).

In May, on the eve of the fuel crisis caused by Ukrainian Armed Forces attacks on Russian oil facilities, Russia sold abroad 194,000 tonnes of A-92 gasoline, 627,000 tonnes of A-95 and higher, and 5.013 million tonnes of diesel. In June, when the crisis began to develop rapidly, supplies fell to 190,000, 524,000, and 3.7 million tonnes respectively.

The figure continued to decline afterward. At the end of July, the government extended the new temporary ban on exports of gasoline, diesel, and other types of fuel until January 31, 2027.

As a result, in August, if supplies of the two types of gasoline are added to diesel supplies, the country sold even less fuel than in June or July. In particular, this included 204,000 tonnes of 95-octane gasoline and 2.278 million tonnes of diesel. The exception was 92-octane gasoline: 182,000 tonnes were sent abroad in August, 45% more than in July.
