The FSB has begun mass-producing staged videos of arrests to “create an atmosphere of total control”

After the start of the war in Ukraine, the FSB began mass-producing staged videos of arrests, searches, and suspects’ confessions to create an “atmosphere of total control” and intimidate Russians, experts from the “Support for Political Prisoners. Memorial” project said in a report.

Human rights defenders analyzed 70 criminal cases featuring videos by the security service and found signs of staging in at least a quarter of them. Among the most telling cases were the filming of the arrest of Romanian citizen Adrian-David Kercho, Kherson resident Yuri Kayev, and Crimean residents Alexei and Vladimir Settarov.

💜Verstka previously reported that since 2022, criminal prosecution for treason and espionage has become widespread. Hundreds of Russians are detained on such charges every year.
