Taxi driver remanded in custody in the Urals on treason charges. Mediazona says he was tortured

Forty-two-year-old Andrei Voloshin was detained on October 22 when he came to the police station to collect a phone that had been taken from him in connection with another criminal case.

As Mediazona writes, after his detention, the man was beaten on the body and head, his handcuffs were tightened severely, and he was suffocated with bags; he was brought to court bearing signs of torture.

Voloshin is now accused of treason. The basis for the new case may have been a photograph Voloshin took while working at the Novator plant, which is linked to the military industry.

The previous criminal case against him was opened in the spring over two comments on VKontakte, under the article on repeated “discrediting” of the army.
