Metro’s Russian branch transferred one billion rubles to a fund for participants in the war in Ukraine. Putin had previously transferred the company’s assets to temporary management

The People’s Front told Vedomosti that Metro had transferred this sum to the “People’s Front. Everything for Victory!” fund.

“As part of Russia’s economic system, we see participation in the state’s strategic initiatives as important,” said Johannes Tolai, Metro’s CEO in Russia.

The company told Vedomosti that part of the transferred funds would go toward humanitarian and social purposes. According to Sergei Gorbunov, first deputy head of the fund’s executive committee, the funds will also be used to purchase equipment for military personnel in the special operation zone.

“The organization’s contribution will make it possible to address urgent issues in acquiring powerful all-terrain transport, communications and reconnaissance systems, means of combating enemy drones, and other things needed by special operation fighters,” Gorbunov said.
