U.S. announces agreement between Russia and Ukraine on a local ceasefire in occupied Oleshky, Kherson Region
The United States announced an agreement between Russia and Ukraine on a local ceasefire in occupied Oleshky, Kherson Region
This was reported on the White House website.
The ceasefire will take effect on October 29. It is needed to evacuate local residents. The agreement was reached through the mediation of Melania, the wife of U.S. President Donald Trump.
“The situation in Oleshky is critical. Oleshky is a frontline city on the brink of catastrophe. Most of Oleshky’s remaining population consists of elderly people who are in urgent need of medical care, medication, food, and clean water. Oleshky residents have limited access to electricity, live amid mined roads, and are regularly subjected to military attacks. It was absolutely clear that without my intervention, it would have been impossible to deliver humanitarian aid to the city and evacuate elderly people,” Trump noted.
🔵It was previously reported that Ukraine and Russia were coordinating the final details of evacuating people from the occupied city of Oleshky and nearby settlements.
🔵The evacuation concerns Oleshky and six other nearby settlements. Up to 2,000 people may be in Oleshky itself; there are around 6,000 civilians in the whole area.
