Austria to expel four Russian diplomats suspected of espionage
Three of them worked at the Russian Embassy in Vienna, while the fourth worked at Russia’s mission to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).
Austria’s Foreign Ministry said that the employees being expelled “engaged in activities incompatible with their diplomatic status,” and they were therefore declared personae non gratae.
All four diplomats have long been known to the Austrian authorities and have appeared on internal lists of suspects for some time, Profil magazine writes. The investigation began in mid-August. It was prompted by a publication by the outlet Proekt about Russian diplomats’ ties in Europe to the GRU, SVR, and FSB.
