Investigative Committee chief Alexander Bastrykin began writing songs with the help of artificial intelligence
The songs of Investigative Committee chief Alexander Bastrykin, published on his YouTube channel and other social networks, were very likely written with the help of neural networks. Several AI-generation detection services indicated this, «Verstka» found.
Three services were used for the check: Submithub, Suno Checker, and Aha. All of them unequivocally detected signs of AI generation in four of the seven songs published on Bastrykin’s channel over the past month—from September 26 to October 23.
For example, in the composition “Light of My Eyes,” released on October 15, Submithub identified traces of neural generation with 94% confidence, Suno Checker gave AI indicators a score of 100 out of 100, while Aha put the probability that the track was generated by a neural network at 99.3%.
All three services gave similarly high probabilities for songs about the “Leningrad police” and compositions dedicated to director Nikita Mikhalkov and actress Tatyana Doronina. In two more songs, “My Beloved Criminal Investigation Department” (meaning the criminal investigation division) and “Ode to the Neva Steps,” two of the three services detected signs of AI content.
Only one track, titled “Leningrad Criminal Investigation Department,” co-written with composer Nikolai Shershen, was given a low probability of AI generation by the services—19 out of 100 points in Suno Checker, 10.9% in Aha, and 68% in Sumbithub.
Judging by the songs checked by «Verstka», Bastrykin regularly posts tracks showing signs of AI and began doing so as early as late 2024. For example, signs of AI were found in the composition “People Like Him Always Seem Immortal to Me,” published on his channel in December 2024.
For comparison, «Verstka» also checked several earlier compositions based on Bastrykin’s lyrics that, according to media reports, appeared on Western streaming services in spring 2023. These include the songs “Whirlwinds,” “Where Does Tenderness Go?” and “White Nights.” In these cases, the services determined that they were most likely created by a human.
🟦«Meduza» first reported in 2017 that Bastrykin writes poetry. As the outlet found, the Investigative Committee chief dedicated some of his work to Alexei Navalny, the radio station Echo of Moscow, and former U.S. President Barack Obama. In November 2024, as «Fontanka» reported, Bastrykin began running a YouTube channel where songs are published with lyrics written by the Investigative Committee chief.
