The Breakfast Show military analyst confirmedthat he was the subject of a BBC film about Russians working with Ukraine. He denies ties to Ukrainian intelligence and involvement in the killing of a general
A military expert on the YouTube channel The Breakfast Show and co-founder of the Telegram channel Volya, using the pseudonym Foma, confirmed that he was one of the subjects of a BBC film about Russians who are said to be helping Ukraine carry out operations in Russia.
On the channel’s broadcast, Foma said that for many years he had been involved in Russia and neighboring countries in “various things” connected with consulting, political consulting, journalism, including military journalism, as well as corporate intelligence and private consulting for businesses and politicians. As a result, he had “accumulated” many sources and contacts in various agencies. In 2021, during a work trip to southern Russia, he “noticed signs of a planned invasion” and spoke with Russian military personnel who, dressed in civilian clothes, were “hanging around” in settlements near the border. According to him, he checked his suspicions about preparations for an invasion through contacts in Russia connected with the army, after which he passed the information to his acquaintances and friends in Ukraine, including military personnel but not military intelligence.
The BBC film claimed that in early 2022, Foma warned the Main Directorate of Intelligence (HUR) of Ukraine’s Defense Ministry about Russia’s planned invasion.
He acknowledged that he and his team collect information in Russia. However, Foma said he had not surveilled Russian generals. He also denies involvement in the killing of Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov, head of the Operational Training Directorate of the Russian Armed Forces’ General Staff. The general was killed in December 2025.
“We have never worked with intelligence services — neither Ukrainian nor any others. That is, we have never received money from them, never carried out their assignments, and never reported to them as superiors. In the early days of emigration, and generally not only in the early days, things were not very good, but we decided that we would not take that kind of money. We continue to adhere to this rule; we have not worked with any intelligence services, although we have acquaintances in very different [intelligence services],” Foma said.

Information Gathering Without Intelligence Work
He acknowledged gathering information but denied working for intelligence services.
Plenty of contacts, he says, but no handlers.
