Aleksandr Kondratov, production designer of “Liquidation,” dies. He had been accused of treason

Aleksandr Kondratov died at Moscow's Botkin Hospital, writes Pervy Otdel. He was 52. Three days before his death, the artist was transferred to the hospital from a pretrial detention center.

Kondratov was detained in spring 2026 at Vnukovo Airport when he came to Russia from Kyiv, where he had lived since 2012. He intended to replace his foreign passport.

After his detention, Kondratov was repeatedly given consecutive administrative arrests in cases of petty hooliganism. In total, he spent more than 70 days under arrest. In August, a treason case was opened against him and he was sent to a pretrial detention center over six online posts.

Kondratov was the production designer for the series “Liquidation.” For his work on it, he received the Golden Eagle and TEFI awards.

Pervy Otdel notes that since the beginning of the year, this is at least the eleventh case of the death of a defendant in a political case in Russia.
