The Student List movement won Serbia’s parliamentary elections. Aleksandar Vučić conceded defeat and says the new authorities will impose sanctions on Russia. The Students deny this

Aleksandar Vučić, who resigned as president a month before the election, had hoped to become prime minister if he won. However, his party lost to the Student List movement.

Formally, this movement emerged a month before the elections, but in fact it grew out of mass protests that began in the country back in 2024. The Student List had no single leader, but it did have a program consisting of three main sections. It must now decide on a candidate for the new prime minister.

Vučić warns that the new government will impose sanctions on Russia. In his view, this will happen as early as March or April. Before the election, representatives of the Students themselves said that Serbia would maintain its principled position of not imposing restrictive measures against Russia.
