Putin said there is “an opportunity for joint work with American partners” in the Arctic

He said this during a speech at the GECF summit.

In the Arctic, we are actively working with many countries around the world interested in joint work. Until quite recently, European partners worked with us at our fields, Chinese partners worked there. Now we are exploring the possibility of joint work with American partners,

Putin said, according to TASS.

In the summer, media reported that Russia and the United States had discussed “energy deals” amid negotiations over the war. According to sources, they discussed the possibility of Russia purchasing American equipment for liquefied natural gas production projects such as Arctic LNG 2.

Putin also said that Europe “is itself striking at its industry and social sphere by refusing Russian energy resources and terminating long-term contracts”:

“You know, there is a saying in Russia: ‘Don’t dig a hole for someone else, or you’ll fall into it yourself.’ That is exactly what, in my view, has happened in the European Union countries today.”

In Putin’s view, the role of natural gas in the world “will only grow stronger,” while “attempts to exclude Russia from among the participants in the global gas market” have “serious consequences.”
