Political scientist Alexander Kynev charged with violating the “foreign agent” law
Political scientist Alexander Kynev has been charged with violating the “foreign agent” law
On October 27, the charge was submitted to Moscow’s Perovsky District Court; no hearing has yet been scheduled, Mediazona reports.
🔴At the end of September, Kynev was detained in a case over an alleged attempted illegal sale of narcotics on a large scale and remanded in pretrial detention for two months. The political scientist did not admit guilt.
🔴Later, Yekaterina Shulman said that Kynev was tortured with electric shocks in an effort to make him confess to treason. His leg was also broken.
🔴It is known that Kynev has not been given crutches in pretrial detention—because of the fracture, he cannot walk. The day before, it was reported that the political scientist had gone on hunger strike in detention. At the same time, the Federal Penitentiary Service denied the reports, saying that Kynev “is being held in conditions that comply with all current legal standards.” Kynev’s lawyer, Mikhail Biryukov, confirmed to Mediazona that his client had indeed not declared a hunger strike. However, he will not eat because of the conditions in the detention center and the injury he received during his arrest.
