We only have enough money left for two months of work.” Kholod warns it may shut down due to a lack of funds
“We only have enough money left for two months of work.” Kholod has warned that it may shut down due to a lack of funds
Journalists called on readers to support their work with donations and noted that recurring subscriptions would allow them to plan the outlet’s future over a longer period. They stressed that there is no administrative or criminal liability for supporting outlets declared “foreign agents.”
“Kholod currently has around one and a half million subscribers across different platforms, and this audience is actively growing. Nevertheless, because of the political situation and numerous monetization restrictions, the size of the audience does not guarantee financial sustainability,” Kholod founder Taisiya Bekbulatova told Meduza.
According to her, the outlet will not be able to preserve all its areas of work. The main focus will be on maintaining its Instagram account and YouTube channel.
Kholod has existed since 2019; during that time, the editorial team’s materials have repeatedly been nominated for the Redkollegia journalism prize. In 2024, the Justice Ministry added the outlet to the register of “foreign agents.”
