Russia is proposing to allow the registration of cars stolen from “unfriendly” countries

The authors of the legislative initiative believe this will keep the cars from “gathering dust.”

The bill was drafted on Vladimir Putin’s instructions. The State Duma’s transport committee recommended adopting it in the first reading, Kommersant reports.

Under the bill, the Interior Ministry would be able to determine the “special procedures” for registering cars sought through Interpol. Deputy Interior Minister Igor Zubov said the measure would be temporary, so that the cars do not “gather dust” and can be driven.

The party that initiated the search would be informed that the car has been registered in Russia.

After that, they will have every opportunity to write to us, come here and send documents,

Igor Zubov said.
