Putin lectured Stubb and Støre on medieval Slavic history. It took up most of their conversation; the call lasted 90 minutes, according to the Financial Times.

▪️The call was initially scheduled to last less than half an hour. In the end, it lasted 90 minutes. But instead of discussing key questions about ending the war, Putin subjected the Finnish and Norwegian leaders to a lengthy lecture on the "root causes of the conflict," according to three sources.

▪️The prospect of a ceasefire was barely discussed. Stubb and Støre decided not to interrupt Putin's historical digressions in an attempt to understand how serious he was about engaging in dialogue with Europe.

During the meeting in Anchorage in August 2025, Putin also lectured Trump on Rurik and Bohdan Khmelnytsky.
