Putin calls Musk a genius because of Starlink

The Russian president brought up Elon Musk while touring an exhibition on the sidelines of the Russia–Africa summit, where he was shown one of the satellites in Rassvet, Russia’s answer to Starlink.

Putin added that Russia, “despite political issues,” is “in close contact” with its U.S. partners, including Musk, because in orbit “it is important not to interfere with one another.” Putin made the statement after the Ukrainian armed forces’ access to Starlink satellite communications, which are critically important on the front lines, was restricted. Musk explained the restrictions by citing fears that Russia would shoot down SpaceX satellites.
