Seriously ill activist Tofik Abdulgaziev has been released and reunited with his family!

Crimean Solidarity activist Tofik Abdulgaziev has been released from prison because of his health. He has already returned home to Crimea.

“In 2019, a healthy, strong man was sent behind bars. Today, the man who walked free is someone whose health was severely damaged over his years in prison,”

his wife, Alie Kurtametova, wrote.

During his imprisonment, Abdulgaziev was diagnosed with a severe form of tuberculosis, chronic heart failure and other illnesses. He was later found to have a malignant brain tumor.

“Tofik now faces a difficult and lengthy course of treatment and recovery. Ahead lies a struggle to regain his health and strength and live a full life after so many years in prison,”

Alie added.

Who is Tofik Abdulgaziev?

Abdulgaziev was detained in Crimea in March 2019. He was accused of participating in the activities of a terrorist organization over his alleged involvement with the Islamic party Hizb ut-Tahrir, as well as preparing to seize power by force. In May 2022, he was sentenced to 12 years in prison.

In 2024, Abdulgaziev was transferred to intensive care at a prison hospital in serious condition. A court refused to release him at the time. The prisoner later began losing his eyesight, and a malignant brain tumor was discovered in late 2025.
